Polo Pony Rescue, Inc. was founded in 2012. PPR exists to rescue equines, primarily former polo ponies, that have been neglected, abused, seized by law enforcement or at risk of slaughter, provide any needed veterinary care, rehabilitation or retraining, and find them new, loving homes. We also offer permanent retirement to horses who have physical or mental conditions rendering them no longer able to be ridden. Our emphasis is on ensuring the equines who pass through our program are fully rehabilitated before being adopted out, and remain safe for the remainder of their lives. We also work to educate the community on excellent horse care and responsible ownership to decrease the need for equine rescue in the future. We currently have horses in Acton, California and Shelbyville and Lexington, Kentucky.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Cathleen Trope has been involved in the horse industry professionally since 1984, spending many years training and polo grooming. Prior to founding Polo Pony Rescue, she served as a board member of Cowgirl Spirit in Washington State, as well as rescuing and rehabilitating many horses as a private rescuer.
Melanie Davis grew up riding hunters and then progressed to showing dressage as an adult amateur. She previously served as the Vice President of Washington State rescue Save A Forgotten Equine (SAFE). Her personal show horse is a 27 year old ex broodmare who sold at our local auction for $80.
Lisa was the proud owner of an OTSB (off track Standardbred) for many years. She joined PPR in 2013 and has been an invaluable member of our team. She and her daughter, Sienna, work side by side at PPR, doing everything from exercising horses to cleaning stalls!
